One New Church

For most of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, the leaders of Sojourn Church and Redeeming Grace Church, along with members from both congregations, prayed about and explored the idea of joining our two churches together to be one new church in Fairfax.

The question we asked was: "Could we do more together for the glory of God and advancement of the gospel than apart?"

Neither of our churches were perfect, but were both in a healthy place, working to be disciples who make disciples. We were like-minded in belief and practice. So this idea to become one new united church is not out of desperation or need, but gospel opportunity.

Throughout this journey we saw more and more that our strengths and weaknesses compliment one another in such a way that would enable us to be a stronger and healthier church.

Through much prayer, many conversations, and member engagement, we believe God called us to this next chapter in our journey to become one new church in Fairfax.

On May 2 we gathered for the first time as one new Redeeming Grace Church

What does this mean for Sojourn?

Sojourn first gathered in September 2012. Our story is one of God's kindness and faithfulness through many ups and downs. He has used this church in the lives of many, seeing people come to know and follow Jesus. No matter where someone has been on his or her spiritual journey, Sojourn has been a welcoming community to continue on that journey toward Jesus.

We have sought to be disciples who make disciples among our neighbors and the nations. Churches have been planted, missionaries sent, and people saved and sanctified.

A chapter of our story has come to and end, but nothing else. Our story continues. Some things will change, but most everything will stay the same. We will continue to strive to be who God has called us to be. We’ve always sought to exalt Christ above ourselves. To see him increase and us decrease. To be a community that is only explainable because of the gospel. To be disciples who make disciples. And that is who we will strive to continue to be until he returns or calls us home.

All honor is due to Jesus. This is his church. Always has been, always will be. Brothers and sisters, Jesus is still at work in us and through us.

So, if you are looking for a church or checking out who Jesus is, we want to invite you to jump in and join us on this adventure as one new church in Fairfax. Come join us on an upcoming Sunday or contact one of our pastors with questions.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

.grace and peace.
Justin, on behalf of the Sojourn Elders
