A New Year, Another Day

Posted by Justin Pearson on

Hello Sojourn Family,

I hope that you are doing well and have enjoyed celebrating Christmas and the New Year.

It's crazy to me that we have not only begun a new year, but a new decade. So much has happened in my life in the last 10 years. So much has happened in the life of our church. 10 years ago Sojourn existed only as a thought and prayer point.

Yet, yesterday was also just another day. Another turning of the planet with the rising and setting of the sun.

The beauty of time and calendars is that they give us markers for our lives, both as we look back and look ahead. However, we should not become infatuated with either--fixated on the past or pining for the future--and forget that God has us at a place in the present.

For some of us, that place--today, this week, this month, this year--will be full of joy. For others it will be full of challenge. For most of us it will be a mixture of both.

My hope for you at the start of another year, which is also just the start of another day, is that God will continue to draw you into his presence and show you his lovingkindness, reminding you that he is ever faithful.

We are going to be spending time over the next few weeks talking about our life together as disciples of Jesus. I am looking forward to diving into God's word with you and seeing it take root in our lives and community.

Will you be praying for your leaders, your community, your self this year? That God would help us to believe and live out the truth of 2 Corinthians 5:14-15--

"For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised."

May our gaze be ever fixed on our Risen King as we sojourn together in 2020!

Love, grace, and peace to you.

P.S. For additional encouragement of your soul, check out this amazing idea. A new song each week based on all 150 Psalms. https://www.everypsalm.com/. The band will release a new song each week. Psalm 1 is already out.
