Study Questions | John 6:22-51

Posted by Justin Pearson on

Sojourners,

I hope you've been able to stay engaged with our Seeing Jesus sermon series over this time of stay-at-home orders and social distancing. I can't wait until we are able to enjoy God's word together again in person.

I love the Gospel of John and I especially love John 6. This morning I was reading our text for this Sunday--John 6:22-51. It's one of my favorites.

Below are some questions for you to consider as you study the text ahead of Sunday.

  • What is the context of this scene? How does it connect back to the feeding of the 5000 we looked at last week?
  • How does Jesus challenge the desires of the people who are coming to him? Are they coming to get Jesus or what Jesus can give them? How might you be tempted to do the same?
  • The exchange in v. 32-36 is rich. What stands out to you? What does Jesus mean when he says: "I am the bread of life"?
  • What is encouraging to you about v. 44? How this shape your understanding of faith and sharing the gospel with others?
  • What other key truths do you learn about Jesus from this text?
  • Who is someone you can encourage this week with something you learned from the text?

Fix your eyes on Jesus this week. He is faithful and true and the only one who can satisfy our deepest longings.

.grace and peace.
Justin
