Study Questions | Philippians 2:5-11

Posted by Justin Pearson on

Sojourners,

I can't believe we are approaching our 4th Sunday of Advent! Christmas is almost here!

Quick reminder to, if you haven't already, register for the Christmas Eve service (5PM or 7PM). The 5PM gathering will be live streamed.

Also, think about someone you could invite to come with or participate online. Make plans to invite them before by Sunday.

This week we will be in Philippians 2:5-11.

Here are some questions for you to consider as you study the text ahead of Sunday:

  • In v. 5 Paul calls us to have the mind of Christ as we relate to one another. He then goes on to describe Jesus to us. What are some of the things you learn about Jesus from this text? What stands out to you?
  • What does it mean that he emptied himself and took on the form of a servant?
  • What is the overarching characteristic of Jesus on display on this text? How does this challenge our view of Jesus? Our view of ourselves?
  • Paul also says that this mind of Christ is yours in Jesus. What does that mean? How does impact how we live and relate to others?
  • The Advent hymn this week is Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Listen to and see what themes from our text are in the song.
  • Who is someone you can encourage this week with something you learned from this text?

Enjoy Jesus, our Immanuel, this week!

.grace and peace.
Justin
