Study Questions: John 18:1-14

Posted by Justin Pearson on

Sojourners,

This week we are entering the final hours before Jesus is sentenced to death on a cross. The next few weeks, as we head toward Easter, will be both sobering and encouraging. I look forward to pressing in together.

The text for this Sunday is John 18:1-14.

Here are some questions to consider as you study the text ahead of Sunday:

  • What strikes you about this scene and Jesus' demeanor and attitude?
  • Why does Jesus ask them (v. 4), "Whom do you seek?" Is there more to this question than identification?
  • What is significant about his response (v. 5), the outcome (v. 6), and the repetition of the question (v. 7)?
  • What does this text teach us about seeking Jesus incorrectly?
  • What is significant about Jesus' response to Peter seeking to defend Jesus (v. 10-11)? What do we learn about his resolve?
  • In v. 12-14 John gives details about what happens next, but what do we learn and see of Jesus in this?
  • Who is someone you can encourage this week with something you learned from this text?

Enjoy Jesus this week!

.grace and peace.
Justin
