Study Questions: John 20:1-18

Posted by Justin Pearson on

Sojourners,

I am looking forward to gathering with you this Sunday for Easter! By way of reminder, we are doing a joint service with RGC at 9AM and 11AM. If you haven't already, please register for the service you plan on attending so we can accommodate social distancing.

This week we will be in John 20:1-18.

Here are some questions for you to consider as you study the text ahead of Sunday:

  • What is the context? Reflect on what has just happened in John 19.
  • What stands out to you about v. 1-10 in how Mary, Peter, and John react to the empty tomb?
  • What is significant about what John says in v. 8?
  • What do we learn about Mary in v. 11-13? Why is she weeping?
  • Why does Mary see Jesus, but not really see him in v. 14?
  • What is significant about Jesus' question to Mary in v. 15?
  • Why does Mary recognize Jesus once he says her name? How does this encourage you?
  • How does seeing and believing work together in this text? How does it work together in our lives?
  • What impact does this text about the resurrection have on our lives today?
  • Who is someone you can encourage this week with something you learned from this text?

Enjoy Jesus this week!

.grace and peace.
Justin
