Study Questions: Luke 2:8-20

Posted by Justin Pearson on

Sojourners,

Advent has begun and so has our Advent sermon series!

Mark preached this past Sunday from Luke 2:22-35 using the song Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. I'll be preaching this Sunday from Luke 2:8-20 using the song O Come All Ye Faithful.

Here are some questions to consider as you study the text ahead of Sunday:

  • What is the context of this section of Luke? What has already happened in chapter 1 and beginning of chapter 2?
  • Listen to O Come All Ye Faithful. How does this text and song connect?
  • What is significant about the angel of the Lord coming to shepherds?
  • In v. 10 the angel makes a bold statement. Why is it important? How does it impact your view of Jesus?
  • What does the declaration of the multitude mean? How are we to respond to it?
  • What can we learn from the shepherds reaction in v. 15-20?
  • How can this scene encourage you this Advent season? Who is someone you can encourage this week with something you learned from this text?

Enjoy Jesus this week!

.grace and peace.
Justin
